  Tech Tips
In today's interconnected world, security should be
one of the first things you consider whenever logging on to
your system. If you are connected to the Internet with any one of
the numerous high-speed connection services available from
Internet Service Providers your system must be
protected.
Just as
your company network needs to be protected from
un- authorized users (Hackers) your 'always on'
Internet connection at home also must be protected from
intruders.
Here are a few ideas on
how you can protect yourself and your system:
- Install a firewall to
keep your system from seeing unwanted network traffic.
- Backup your files to
floppy or other removable media as often as possible.
- Keep your operating
system up to date with all of the latest patches and hot fixes
from Microsoft or other software manufacturers.
- Install anti-virus
software on your system to catch virus' from floppies or CD's,
- Get your email from a
provider that scans email and email attachments for viruses. Email
attachments can carry a deadly payload.
- Knowledge!! Know what
dangers are out there and read up on them! If you don't know where
to go, don't panic!!! Just click on the contact us button and drop
us a line, we'll be happy to provide you with some excellent
sources of information about protecting your
system
